Summer Math Prep: For 6th Grade

Catch up or get ahead in middle school math. This summer Math Prep will provide instruction, homework, assessment and some math fun! Topics: Week 1: Whole numbers (Mathematical operations, PEMDAS and word problems) Week 2: Number Theory (Prime, composite, factor trees, GCF, LCM and word problems) Week 3: Types of numbers (Identify Natural, Whole, Integers and Rational Numbers) Fractions (Add, subtract, multiply, divide and word problems) Week 4: Coordinate Plane (Quadrants, points, variables) Week 5: Ratios and Rates (Visuals, analytical practice and word problems) Week 6: Proportional relationships between x and y (Visuals) Percent (Visuals, conversions, word problems) Week 7: Expressions & Equivalent Expressions (Parts, writing expressions, evaluate) Week 8: Solve One Variable Equations Weekly Structure: - Instructional Hour: An engaging 60 minute class time where students will be taught math concepts while building their ability to apply and analyze the math they are learning. - Homework Assignment: Homework helps math concepts stick and builds mathematical perseverance. Assignments will be emailed to parents and are due each week. - Quiz: Every other week, students will participate in a quiz where they can win prizes. Start Date: June 16th (Last Monday meeting in August 4th) Days: Every Monday Time: 6:00pm PST At the end of the 8 weeks, participants will receive - T-shirt from I AM STEM ABLE - Certificate of Completion - One free tutoring session for the new school year
